Meet Helen

"It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men (and women)." Frederick Douglass.

My deep desire is to transform individual lives

I am Helen, a compassionate Counselling Psychologist with 18 years of experience. My journey began with a shift from a corporate career in Human Resources Management to psychology, fueled by a profound desire to meaningfully support people's growth.

Inspired by the Biblical story of Joseph, during a visit to the Taizé monastery in 2001, I felt a calling to aid those metaphorically stuck in pits, leading me to pursue postgraduate studies at the University of Stellenbosch. My deep desire is to transform individual lives, thereby contributing to a world of kindness and compassion. Specialising in working with adolescents and young adults, I strive to build strong children and young people who will lead. As a healer and advocate, I address psychological challenges, emphasising prevention, collaboration, and resilience for a brighter, robust future.

Beyond my Plumstead-based private practice, I contributed to public and private higher education, public health, and the corporate sector. Guided by Narrative Therapy, I believe in walking alongside individuals, helping them make sense of their lives. My focus on adolescents and young adults stems from my admiration for their energy and creativity. Currently pursuing a Doctorate in Child and Adolescent Psychology at the University of Free State, I am in the process of finalising my dissertation.

In addition to my work with adolescents, I consult with adults, couples, and families. My approach extends beyond conventional counselling, incorporating group facilitation for organisational teams. Passionate about fostering human potential, I envision psychology as a key player in this developmental process.

On a personal level, I am a married mother of two teenagers, an adopted daughter, and a biological son. I live in Plumstead amidst a lively array of pets. My commitment to supporting individuals on their journey towards self-discovery defines my practice, making it a beacon for those seeking transformative experiences and authentic growth. My story is not just one of professional expertise but also a testament to the belief that, with the right support, individuals can contribute positively to the world, fulfilling their full potential as social beings.
